Unknowns 6-2 White Everton

Unknowns bounced back from last week's disaapointing loss to register a morale-boosting victory back at their own home ground.

Zhenrong got the game rolling with a delightful lob after being put through by a long ball, to cash-in his 31st goal f the campaign. Sherman was next onto the act, a bad clearance from the keeper saw the ball bobbling to Sherman, who was lurking outside the box, 25 yards from goal. Showing cool composure, he put in a screamer back towards goal with his first touch. The ball promptly hustle the net via the top corner for a 2-0 lead. Just before half time, Jais added another goal after he was put through by zhenrong for a 3-0 half time lead.

2nd began in same fashion as Unknowns continue their assault on the opponents goal. Jais then another another goal for his second, and unknowns' forth after good work by apple down the right. Midfield maestro apple dribble down to the by line before unselfishly cutting the ball for Jais to stab home a near post, off a deflection. Apple then got himself into the scoresheet with a clinical left footed finish, before his brother kevin profited from another defensive gaffe to put in the sixth goal.
Unknowns then took their foot off the pedal and allowed the opponents to grad two well taken consolation.

Overall a good performance and a tremendous response to last week's lost.

Bedok Veterans 4-2 Unknowns

An uninspiring day saw Unknowns turn up with only 10 players to start the game, as the match was quite hastily arranged.
The 10 men was reduced to nine after Winger Jason had to be stretchered off with an ankle injury.
A good move by Veterans saw them take the lead after Unknowns failed to deal with a cross. Unknowns rallied and fought back when becky got a stinger under the keeper's body just before half time. 1-1.
Second half saw Jason bravely strapped himself up to return the the pitch to add numbers tot he team, but was really unlucky when an opponent's corner kick dropped in front of him, hit him on his injured ankle, and rolled into the path of a striker to sweep home. Alvin then added his own comedy moment when he headed a high ball through to an opponent, who smashed the ball home from close range. Right back Jais then bombarded through the right, played a delightful one-two with yuanji, and fired home a stiff left-footed grounder into the far corner. Game on!

However, the joy was short lived when Yingjie mis-judged a long free kick which sailed past him into the net for the game to be sealed at 4-2.

Unknowns 3-3 Catanaccios

Unknowns United offer the best advertisement for the ugly game of Catannacio by letting a priceless win slip out of their hands. The opponents, Catannacios, true to their name,employed a defensive soak-and-strike tactics, made famous by the Italians. It was also further aided by the calamitous defensive display put up by the Unknowns.

Unknowns started strongly with Leslie passing a late fitness test and duly took the place of Jais at left back. Game started with GK-Yingjie, LB-Leslie, RB-botak, CBs-Vincent and Alvin,LM-Jason,RM-Sherman,CMs-Apple and Becky, FWs- Zhenrong and Kevin.

First half ended goal-less, despite Unknowns dominating play and threaten with several efforts, but the opponent's defense held on well.

Who would half guessed the goal fest in the second half. Firstly, against the run of play, Catanaccios took the lead. A counter attack on the right saw the winger beat Jais, who had came on for Leslie at left back, for pace. However, he was pushed all the way to the by line, and face with little option, he chose to flick the ball upwards across the goal. However, the ball eluded everyone and sneaked into the far post for an unlikely lead.

Just as the Unknowns tried to re-organize, the Cantannaccios struck again. An innocuous back pass saw Gk Yingjie clearing the ball straight to an opponent near the centre circle, as the whole of the Unknowns backline watch. Seeing the chance, the midfielder TAP the ball towards goal, with the Unknowns defense still watching. The ball trickled the pass the out-of-position goalkeeper into the goal for an undeserving 2-0 lead, Unknowns STILL watching.

It was then the unknowns woke up and pull themselves together to storm the opponents goal, SWAT style.

First, Jais pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after the opponent handled in the box.

Then came the goal of the game/month. A bouncing loose ball was picked up by Zhenrong some 25 yards away from goal. Cushioning the high ball with his chest, he went on to unleash a punishing volley the flew past the goalie's dive into the top corner. Pick that one out!

It was to be better as Unknowns were to grab the lead just 10 minutes on. A superb through ball saw Sherman bursting past the defenders for a one-on-one chance with the keeper. In truly calm style, he side-stepped the keeper to stab home the ball, and then went on a Fernando Torres-styled sliding celebration. Unknowns have turned it around!

Just when all thought that the comeback has been completed, calamity struck again. from a corner, Goalie Yingjie could only touch the ball out to an opponent who somehow managed to stoop his header in for the equalizer.

Quote of the game - Jais to the ref: Rep, must fall down then can give penalty ah? - After the referee failed to award a stone-wall penalty after Alvin was tripped in the box, but refused to fall. A case of honestly being punished.

Moment of the game - (Sorry but i gotta say this...haha...) Unknowns won a free kick in a good position outside the box. Up stepped becky, who stepped up, shaped out C Ronaldo style, strode forward, only to slip at point of contact and fluffed the kick. This is just what made Sunday football Sunday. Classic!

Man of the match: A tough choice between Becky and Apple, who control the midfield well. But Apple will get it this time because Becky slipped and so minus marks.

5th July Unknowns 1-0 White Tigers

Unknowns grind out a highly impressive 1-0 win on Sunday against the White Tigers.

It was an opponent that the unknowns have lost to previously, and it was clear the players were eager to go out there to reverse that record.

Game started with top scorer Zhenrong and bombing left back Leslie missing through injuries but it was still a good turn out.

Line up: (GK)Yingjie, (LB)Jais, (CBs)Apple + Vincent, (RB)Derrick, (LM)Jason, (CM)Becky + Gabby, (RM)Botak,(FWs) Kevin + Sherman.

Game went on with Unknowns having the upper hand throughout, with the back line solid and steady. This resulted in only ONE save that Yingjie had to make all game.

The dynamic Unknowns front line create havoc in the opponents half but could not beat the impressive opposing goalkeeper, who show great positioning and handling skills to keep his team in the game.

He did lost his head when a fast counter ahead saw kevin breaking down to the left corner, only to be cynically hauled down by the keeper, who was lucky to escape with a yellow card.

Stand-in left back Jais then proceed to curl a free kick just over the bar which would have given them the lead. The lead was to be snatched by the Unknowns in stunning fashion.

An innocuous throw-in by Jais near the opponent's penalty box saw becky controlling the ball down well (RARITY 1), twist and turn, before laying the ball invitingly(RARITY 2) to his midfield partner Gabby, who was lurking just outside the box, to smash a swerving shot into the top corner that left the keeper with no chance. The quality of that shot was shown as the ball hit the side netting as it went in, well-done Gabby!

Becky then went on to clip the crossbar twice in a bid to increase his goal telly, which has been stagnant for a long time.

Amidst all the action, the only cameo Yingjie got was afew back passes which he handled well.

Overall a good win and a good clean sheet!MOM (NEW) goes to Vincent who maimed the opponent's attack and caused all sorts of problem during set pieces.
